We look to empowering women with technology
Ghana’s unemployment rate continues to worsen, almost doubling to 11.9% in 2015. The World Bank in its latest report on jobs in Ghana estimated that some 48% of youth between the ages of 15-24 did not have jobs. The report confirms that young women are particularly disadvantaged and have much higher inactivity rates than men.
While there is no foolproof guarantee to finding jobs, there is significant evidence that digital skills are critical to improving career opportunities and vital to survival in the modern workplace.
Stinsad Consult and Soronko Foundation are collaborating to provide digital, technical and entrepreneurial support to young women from disadvantaged communities with the hope linking them to employers following extensive training and preparation. After the training participants will be placed in mentorship or internship opportunities to practice their skills in the job market and connect them with potential employers for job opportunities.
"Fatimatu pictured here is one success story. Her highest qualification was a WASSCE Certificate. She was unemployed. Fatimatu completed the program and learnt coding and web development. Now Fatimatu has just finished an internship and is applying for jobs with her digital skills"
